Aid Needed for Michael Gavin's Final Expenses

Michael Arthur Gavin, 76, passed away on September 14, 2024, in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born in New York, grew up in Miami, and served in the Army in Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Gavin graduated from Emory University with his BSN and put this to use in the ER, OR, training pediatric nurses, on a Native American Reservation in New Mexico, and in the prison system.

Those who knew him here in Tallahassee will remember him for his forever service mindset, solving problems for any and everyone who let him know. This passion to "fix things" and the dogmatic way he tackled his missions will be his legacy.

Most will remember him for his voice, both in volume and song. You may have heard him sing at one of many funerals, including the one held annually for those experiencing homelessness, or in one of the churches around the community. He loved the Lord, and one of his favorite places to praise through song was the gospel sings at the American Legion. You may have heard him at Mission BBQ. In addition to his favorite restaurant, he also sang the National Anthem at an FSU softball game, the Grand Opening for the Tallahassee VA, and countless other places.

He is survived by his wife, Tanya Gavin, his military family, and his children, including his son Michael and daughters Erin and Michelle. Services will be held at the National Cemetery.

My ask is for help with the costs. I have been unemployed for the last 6 months without an unemployment check, and while this has been great to spend time with Michael, we have been living on his Social Security. This, of course, stops at death. It scares me on how to survive.

I am not asking for this help, just sharing my dire need. I cannot move things forward until the decision is made on how I will pay for it. Yes, part will be reimbursed by the VA, yet even deciding cremation over burial holds up the death certificate, which holds up everything. If you can help, I would so appreciate anything. Thank you.
