Aid Nick's Recovery: Stabbed in Bogota

Hello.

My name is Nick, and I’m an oncology nurse that was stabbed in Bogota on July 13, 2024, shortly after the completion of my last travel assignment.

I traveled to Colombia to participate in a Spanish immersion program. Within 36 hours of being in Bogota, I was brutally stabbed in the back twice while walking down the street, minding my business, on a main road in front of one of the most famous hotels in Bogota.

I spent over two weeks in the hospital in Bogota before being transported via air ambulance to Orlando, Florida. I was hospitalized in Orlando for an additional two weeks.

I required five blood transfusions and six surgeries. My hospitalizations were complicated by a paralytic ileus, as well as an MRSA infection. Altogether, I was hospitalized for over a month. I went twenty-three days without a bite to eat or a sip of water. I suffered through an indescribable amount of pain.

The debt has piled high due to the cost of hospitalizations, medical bills, COBRA insurance and more. I have not worked in over six months due to the extent of my injuries, as well as the mental anguish that this has caused. I’ve reached out to the US Government asking for assistance from the Office of the Attorney General’s Assistance for US Citizens Victims of Crime Abroad. It doesn’t matter how emergent, their waitlist to view cases is up to a year. I have set up a gofundme account to help with my expenses. Any help is appreciated.
