Help Ralph & Rox after Hurricane Helene Devastation

Hello, my name is Jessica and I am the only child of my parents, Ralph and Roxanne Campbell. Though I was raised in Florida for over 25 years, I no longer live in the state. However, my parents live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, north of Tampa. I am writing on their behalf regarding a recent and significant loss related to Hurricane Helene.

Between September 28 and 29, 2024, Hurricane Helene brought strong storm surges to their area and into their home. At the height of the surge, approximately 42 inches of water entered their home. In the image below you can see where the water line was at the peak of the surge.

These storm surges caused substantial and extreme damage to their home such that they had to empty out all of their house's contents and begin major internal reconstruction to prevent the growth and spread of black mold. They had to throw away a lifetime of memories and nearly everything that they owned as a byproduct of the storm surge, which also brought in unsafe and dirty waters. The standing water damaged the drywall, and they are in the process of tearing down the bottom half of their internal home structure. They no longer have a safe place to stay, nor do they have much beyond the clothing on their back and in a single suitcase.

My parents are in their 60s; Roxanne is retired, and while my father is fortunate to be employed, his position has a limited time available for paid time off (i.e., vacation), which he is running out of. They are currently staying in hotels, which is not covered by their flood or homeowner's insurance, and is a substantial out-of-pocket cost for them to navigate.

The primary goal of this fundraiser is to fund my parents in having a place to stay for a temporary (though unfortunately undefined) amount of time while the current hurricanes/storms continue to pass through the area and until the substantial repairs are made to their home so that it becomes habitable once again.

A secondary goal is to help them purchase new clothing and basic necessities (e.g., food and toiletries) to replace what they have lost in Hurricane Helene.

Any remaining funds will go to rebuilding their lives and paying for any costs incurred as a byproduct of this Hurricane and any additional damage that may happen related to the impending storm (projected to hit Wednesday, October 9th, 2024).
