Aid Request for Elder Artist
Donation protected
My name is Chris Lucius. I, along with friends and family, are raising funds to assist an elder artist in our art community named Syma in maintaining her studio practice for another year. Due to a rise in art studio prices, and a decline in available work hours, Syma is facing the possibility of losing her studio and with it, her lifelong art practice. For her 80th birthday this year, her friends and I are asking for help to maintain her studio practice so Syma can focus her time and energy on what she’s worked towards her entire life. Every dollar pledged will go towards paying for Syma’s studio rent and hiring a part time helper to assist Syma with studio tasks that she no longer is physically capable of doing. If you are able to, we highly encourage you to pledge what you can to help Syma do what she does best.
Syma has been a cherished member of our community in Red Hook, Brooklyn for over a decade, always offering a huge smile, positive affirmations, and sage wisdom to anyone she passes. Syma lives on a fixed income, working as a freelance teaching artist at the MET and teaching private clay classes as often as possible. Despite her limited mobility and work schedule, she finds time and energy to host teaching events for elders in senior centers and in mental health shelters for unhoused women. She is one of the best of us and has earned an opportunity to focus on her life’s ambition. If you would, please help us make this a possibility.
Thank you.
