Aid Rita Racine's Journey to Health

Donation protected
Hello everyone, My name is Alex and I'm Rita Racine's Granddaughter. A lot of you may know her as Miss Racine. On January 18th 2025 she woke up to a Thunderclap Headache and went to Pen Bay Medical Center by Ambulance, where they did a CT Scan and saw blood on the brain. She was then transferred to Maine Medical Center by ambulance, where she was very quickly admitted to the ICU and was told she suffered a brain aneurysm rupture. They were quick to do the procedure and to coil the aneurysm. They said there shouldn't be any deficits since it was caught and taken care of so quickly. The day after the surgery they put in a drain to relieve pressure by draining the cerebrospinal fluid. She has been very closely monitored in the ICU with CNA's next to her 24/7 and nurses very closely monitoring her as well as doing frequent neuro checks. Her whole medical team has been fantastic. She's been awake and eating by herself, PT has been in a few times to help her stand and lift/transfer her to the chair, but she can't do it unassisted. Now besides the obvious toll this has taken on her body, there's the mental part. She's had a lot of memory problems and confusion which can happen after this type of thing. it's hard to explain unless you've seen her or talked to her. Her memory is at its best after she's gotten some rest, but fades quickly. One of the Nurses said it could take a few weeks to get back to her baseline, but there's also no way to know for sure. Hopefully this week she'll be transferred to a regular room, then most likely to a rehab facility a week or two after that.

Rita has always been the type to want to help others. She's cared for so many people in her lifetime between teaching elementary school for decades, Church, AA, FA, making cakes for so many special life events, and she's loved every second. Going anywhere with her was never a quick errand, she knows so many people and always wants to know how you're doing, as well as your whole extended family, and she genuinely does care. I've created this GoFundMe to help take care of her bills, medical & other, and put it towards whatever she needs or will need in the near future. While she's mentally incapacitated, I'll be taking care of her finances and helping to make medical decisions. I know if she understood what was going on, she probably wouldn't want me to do this, because she never wants to ask for help for herself. But this time, she needs a little help.
