Help My Brother Roberto Fight a Rare and Aggressive Cancer

Hi, my name is Mariana, and I'm starting this fundraiser for my brother, Roberto. He is one of the kindest, most generous people I know — a devoted husband, a loving father to his 4-year-old son, and someone who’s always been there for others. Now, he needs us.

In 2023, Roberto was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma in his foot — a very rare and aggressive type of cancer with limited treatment options. He immediately began an intense treatment plan: strong chemotherapy and radiation. In October 2023, the sarcoma was surgically removed, and his foot was reconstructed using tissue and skin from other areas of his body. He went home to start his recovery.

Sadly, in November 2024, a scan revealed that the cancer had spread to his lungs. Just three months later, the nodules had grown, and a biopsy confirmed it was the same aggressive sarcoma. The doctors told him that his chances of survival are slim, and that he will need to undergo an even more aggressive chemotherapy treatment if he wants to keep fighting for his life.

This illness is consuming all of his physical and mental capacity, and he’s no longer able to work or provide for his family. He now has to travel to Houston for this next phase of treatment, far from home — which adds an even heavier emotional and financial burden. He’s struggling to afford medical expenses, travel costs, hotel stays, insurance deductibles, and basic living costs.

He currently has no income, and his situation is truly desperate. Our family is doing everything we can to support him, but the financial burden is overwhelming — at a time when he needs emotional peace to help his body heal. Roberto is physically and emotionally exhausted.

He has a sweet 4-year-old son who needs his dad healthy and present, and a wife who is doing everything she can to hold the family together. We are terrified of what may come next.

Hola, mi nombre es Mariana y estoy organizando esta campaña para recaudar fondos para mi hermano, Roberto. Es una de las personas más nobles y generosas que conozco: un esposo dedicado, un papá amoroso de un niño de 4 años y alguien que siempre ha estado para los demás. Ahora, él es quien nos necesita.

En 2023, a Roberto le diagnosticaron sarcoma sinovial en el pie — un tipo de cáncer muy raro y agresivo, con pocas opciones de tratamiento. En octubre de 2023, le removieron el sarcoma mediante cirugía y le reconstruyeron el pie con tejido y piel de otras partes de su cuerpo. Volvió a casa para comenzar su recuperación.

Lamentablemente, en noviembre de 2024, una tomografía reveló que el cáncer se había extendido a sus pulmones. Tres meses después, los nódulos habían crecido y una biopsia confirmó que seguía siendo el mismo sarcoma agresivo. Los médicos le dijeron que sus probabilidades de sobrevivir son bajas, y que necesita iniciar un tratamiento de quimioterapia aún más agresivo si quiere seguir luchando por su vida.

Esta enfermedad está consumiendo toda su capacidad física y mental, y ya no puede trabajar ni sostener a su familia. Ahora debe viajar a Houston para esta nueva fase del tratamiento, lejos de casa — lo cual representa una carga emocional y económica aún más pesada. Está luchando para poder costear los gastos médicos, traslados, hospedaje, deducibles del seguro y lo básico para vivir.

Actualmente, no tiene ingresos, y su situación es realmente desesperada. Como familia, estamos haciendo todo lo que podemos para ayudarlo, pero la carga económica es enorme — justo en un momento en el que necesita tranquilidad emocional para que su cuerpo pueda sanar. Roberto está agotado física y emocionalmente.
