Aid Ken and Shino's Cancer Battle and Fire Recovery
Donation protected
On January 6th, Ken Charlson sat with Shino Arihara as she received a seven-hour chemotherapy and immunotherapy dose to treat Stage 3 ovarian and uterine cancer. On January 8th, their home and livelihoods (a letterpress print shop and music studio) burned to the ground in the Eaton Fire.
Shino’s marvelous letterpress cards (Fugu Fugu Press - all expertly printed by Shino and Ken) can be seen in a thousand retail stores internationally, and her paintings have been published in children’s books, magazines, and displayed in exhibitions (including several at Giant Robot's brilliant GR2 Gallery).
Ken is a terrifically talented musician, and has performed in local venues for thirty years as a jazz pianist, both solo and in bands. He composed, recorded, jammed, and taught piano, guitar and drums in his home studio, a spot and community beloved by students and professional musicians over the past fifteen years.
Shino and Ken are delightful and generous; the best of humans. I would be so grateful if you could join me in helping to ease their situation.
About me:
My name is Emmie Hsu, and I’m a longtime friend and admirer of Shino and Ken, as well as a fellow greeting card maker. We met at the National Stationery Show in NYC in 2006.
All funds raised through this GoFundMe will go directly to Shino and Ken, to use towards getting back on their feet.
Thank you so much!
