Aid the Cohen Family's Post-Fire Recovery

Donation protected
Hello from the Cohen family! You may know Jeremy as a guitarist for the Deadlocks, or simply a kind face that you see in town on a grocery shopping trip. However you might know Jeremy, or even if you don’t, we’ve found ourselves in desperate need of a bit of community assistance.

We’re a family of four: Jeremy, Carey, our young son, and Jeremy’s father. We also have four pets who we love very much, and we are currently trying to support everyone on a very limited budget.

Last April, our home unfortunately caught fire, and quite a bit of damage was done. The insurance company who covered our property was able to help the repairs, but money for other living expenses has simply run out due to the high cost of temporary housing in the area.

Along with fire damage, we live in the home of an elderly gentleman who has had a bit of a hard time taking care of the house since his late wife passed. The home was already in some state of disrepair before the fire happened, and the smoke and fire damage only made things worse.

On top of all of this, we have pet boarding fees for our pets that the insurance company can’t refund us for, due to simply being out of money and time for this project, as well as hotel costs, all of which have heavily impacted our personal funds.

In short, we need quite a bit of help getting back on our feet. We need to be able to repair and replace the rest of the appliances that weren’t covered, as well as handle the cost of living in this crazy economy.

If you donate to us, here’s what your money will be going to:

Living expenses post-fire. The cost of our temporary housing, and amenities/food that were needed during the 8 months that we were displaced. We’re very behind on this - not much money from the insurance company went into the things we needed during our stays in hotels, and most of the food was bought from restaurants out of pocket due to a lack of kitchen.
Pet boarding. We had one pet who we had to board throughout the last 8 months, and while the shelter was very generous and the insurance company covered some, and while we found a foster family for two of our pets, we’re finding ourselves with huge fees to keep our animal family together.
Propane. Winters get cold in Alpine, and this one will be no different. We need to be able to keep warm, and our home tank is currently empty.
Restocking our kitchen. After months without a kitchen, almost all the food that we did have spoiled or has been thrown out, and we need to go on a large shopping trip to replace everything in our fridge and cupboards.
Appliance repairs. These include the washer and dryer, an electrical problem with the garbage disposal, and repairs to the plumbing for the outside water spigots.
New appliances. We need an entirely new dishwasher and microwave, as both are completely broken.

If you can help at all, it’s greatly appreciated by the entirety of the Cohen family. Even small amounts help. If you can’t pitch in at the moment, it would be lovely if you could share this post with your friends who love the Deadlocks, and anyone else who might be interested in helping.

Thank you again! We will update as things are fixed and bills are paid.
