The Demello-Burton family was home on August 25, 2024, when a landslide struck their home in Ketchikan, Alaska, causing flooding and devastation. Three people were home and escaped, one person had to be extracted from the home, and their cat Yuri and bird Flapper are still missing. They escaped with only the clothes on their back, their cat Shirin, and their dog Tipper.
