Aida Ramic Memorial Fund
Donation protected
We mourn the death of Aida Ramic, a beloved teacher, friend, and former colleague at Asian Human Services. Aida was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in November, and she died on June 18 in the loving presence of her family. We are raising funds to support Aida’s family at this time of grief and hardship, and also to honor her work as a much-loved teacher.
For 22 years Aida was an outstanding early childhood teacher. In 2001 she was the first person hired in the LEAF Program, which served immigrants and refugees from around the world—Aida was a refugee herself, from Bosnia and Herzegovina, who came to Chicago in 1996. She changed the lives of hundreds of preschoolers who had never been apart from their parents, bringing children into a warm, nurturing environment. Even while working a fulltime job and raising a young family, Aida took many college classes in Early Childhood Education, in a language she had to learn as an adult, and in 2013 she received her degree from Truman College.
Aida was patient, kind and loyal, with a great sense of right and wrong. All who knew Aida feel her absence very much—especially her husband Amko and children Lejla and Haris. We thank you for any amount you are able to donate.
