Aidan Lowrey's Wheelchair Basketball Journey
Donation protected
I'm fundraising for my son Aidan Lowrey in our quest to buy him a custom-made wheelchair for him to play wheelchair basketball in as he develops in the sport.
Aidan is 13, and was born with Proximal Foetal Femoral Disorder, in simple terms, means that some of your limbs do not grow properly in utero.
In Aidan's case, this meant that he was born with his left leg 8 inches shorter than his right, half a left thigh bone, part of the left-hand side of his hip bone missing, he has no cruciate ligaments in his left knee and his left ankle/Achilles has also not formed properly.
He's not had it easy, having over 20 operations including extensive leg-lengthening, but this hasn't stopped him from living life to the full.
He started playing wheelchair basketball with Lothian Phoenix this year and last month was selected to represent the Scotland Under 14 team at the British Championships in August of this year
This is only the start of his ambitions as he is very keen to go all the way in the sport,
and to do this he needs a custom-fitted wheelchair.
As there are various levels of disability in everyone that plays the sport, you need to be custom fitted for a chair that suits your disability rather than use a generic one that can cause back problems.
These chairs are expensive, so we're looking to raise £3,900 to get one for him
Aidan is very ambitious and wants to go on to represent Scotland in the Commonwealth Games and possibly even Great Britain in the Olympics as he gets older
Thanks for taking the time to read this and hopefully you will be able to help
No matter how much the donation, it all helps!
