Aiden’s #DUNNSTRONG Fund
In February 2017, our 10 year old son, Aiden, had hydrocephalus which resulted in an emergency surgery. This led to the finding of a tumor found in the pineal region of the brain. After several successful craniotomies, they were able to get a biopsy. Unfortunately, the results were positive for Pineoblastoma Cancer, which is a rare and super aggressive brain cancer. He went through treatment for a year, with several appointments, having to travel to chicago for 6 weeks straight daily, to driving to the childrens hospital an hour away for months on end due to his specific “cancer plan”. Aiden has gone through several procedures, tons of lab work, and many MRI scans. After treatment, Aiden was in remission for almost a year. On the yearly check up appt, towards the end of May 2019, they told us a new tumor had grown in the right frontal lobe and needed to do surgery AGAIN, (his 5th craniotomy), to try to fully remove it and biopsy it. That was successful, however the pathology came back positive for Pineoblastoma cancer, that had spreaded. His team, said there was nothing left they could do besides palliative care, but WE WERENT GIVING UP ON OUR LITTLE MAN! We reached out to St. Judes in Memphis. Went down as their protocol to get scans and labs done, at the beginning of September 2019. At that time, they told us in a matter of 3 months, a new tumor grew in the same spot as the one that was removed back in May, as well as a couple spots on the left frontal lobe that were suspicious. They had a trial available called the SJDAWN, that he qualified for. Aiden and myself, had to be in Memphis, without my husband and two other sons (Aiden’s younger brothers Dominic and Benjamin), for a little over a month to begin the trial. He completed 2 of the 6 cycles, 1 28 day cycle there and 1 at home. The trial was giving him the worst of the worst side effects, so we stopped the trial once the second cycle was complete. At the beginning of December 2019, we went back for scans to see if there was any change. Unfortunately there was no good change, but in fact the tumor in the right frontal lobe had grew and the cancer has spread in the spaces of his brain as well as the two spots on the left frontal lobe, showing as a cluster of cancer cells. At that time, St. Judes said there was nothing more they could do besides palliative care to give him the best quality of life he has left. They sent us home with setting up a hospice team for Aiden. We started CBD oil, December 15th, 2019. February 23, 2020, we went back to Memphis for scans. They were great and the doctors were shocked. There was little growth on the tumors and no more spreading! Plus Aiden’s been doing great and looking great! Since 2 weeks ago, we thought things were going decently well. He’s had a few abnormal episodes, which our younger two saw first hand yesterday March 8th, 2020. Aiden has been having numbness and a tingling sensation on the left side of his face, resulting in the left side of his mouth spasming without being able to control it. Ive reached out to his doctors, and they believe these episodes are mild seizures. Aiden is one of the strongest boys ever! We are thankful he isnt in any pain, that we know of, as if he was he would definitely try to hide it from us. We are thankful he smiles and laughs and plays... and just loves so much to make you smile and make sure you're feeling good! He is completely selfless and its so admirable! Please continue to pray for strength for Aiden, for all 5 of us to be able to stay strong, and to continue pulling through! Thank yall so much!
The reason we are starting this new fund is because of the medical bills that have piled up in the last 3 years specifically for Aiden. We have our boys on state aid insurance, that we pay a premium for monthly to, however it only helps so much. His insurance did not approve of ANY of the lab work he needed, the homehealth he received during his chemo maintenance, or copays for each visit at the Children’s hospital in Madison, WI. We are asking for any help we can get to be able to pay this off completely. Any little thing helps! Again, thank yall so much, for the prayers and any donations, we are beyond appreciative and grateful for everything! PLEASE SHARE SO WE CAN REACH OUR GOAL TO GET THIS PAID OFF SOONER THAN LATER!
