My name is Hashem, I am a medical student. I live in Gaza with my family. We have been living under war in Gaza for more than a year and a half, during which we were forceibly displaced from our home. We have been forced to relocate more than five times since the beginning of this war. We live under constant bombing, severe hunger, freezing cold, and relentless violence.

‎‏My family is currently staying in a relative’s tent after the place where we had taken refuge was directly bombed in December 2024. All of our belongings were destroyed, several relatives were killed, and my younger brother was injured. I, too, suffered a leg fracture and ligament tears for the second time due to the bombings

Being injured in this war is truly a curse, as the situation at the hospitals is catastropic. Hospitals in Gaza lack proper medication and fuel because of ongoing restrictions. They are overwhelmed with severly injured people and frequently targeted in bombings. When we took my brother to Al-Aqsa hospital to try to get treatment, he was forced to lie on the floor for days while waiting for treatment because there weren’t enough doctors or beds to treat patients.

We were in yet another bombing in late December and my poorly healed leg injury (from a bombing earlier in 2024) worsened. All of the ligaments in my foot were torn and I had to wait four days before I could receive a cast for my leg and painkillers due to the medical shortages. In fact, the only way I was able to receive treatment and care for my injury was by going to a private hospital - the only place where painkillers and a cast were available, where I was forced to pay $2,500 to receive basic medical care. ‎‏

As you can tell, in addition to the constant bombing, hunger, and suffering, we are facing extreme inflation. Essential goods are either blocked from entering Gaza or allowed in only in small quantities, which are often stolen and sold at exorbitant prices. My family lost its only source of income due to the war, and now we rely solely on your donations to survive.

‎‏Here are the current prices for basic necessities in Gaza:

‏A sack of flour: $700and rising
1 kg of sugar: $200
‏1 kg of rice: $300
‏1 kg of pasta: $170
‏Canned goods: Over $80 per can
1 kg of vegetables: Over $400 ‎‏

To feed my family for just one day, I need more than $200.

‎‏For the second winter in a row, we are living in a tent, suffering through the bitter cold.Continuous rain destroys the tents, soaking everything inside, and strong winds frequently uproot them. This exposes us to diseases and has already caused the death of many children from the cold. We do not even have our own tent to stay in right now because we could not afford to buy one after our shelter was bombed, so we are sharing with relatives. A new tent costs more than $3,000, which is why we desperately need your help. Every donation truly makes a difference
