Vascular Access Team is starting a GoFundMePage for our dear friend and coworker, Aileen Sarno. Aileen has been a nurse for over 29 years. She has been a Vascular Access nurse at Lutheran Hospital for the past 17 years. Aileen married her high school sweetheart Ronnie, and they have been blessed with 3 beautiful children. John and Jody are both attending Purdue at Fort Wayne, and Jamie is a sophmore in high school. Aileen has many passions, one being the piano. She is the pianist/organist for her church, and also for Cantabury Childrens Choir. Aileen loves crafts, baking, and organization. She loves to dote on the people she cares about. We are often the beneficiaries of her many talents. We are blessed with baked goods, an organized office, and personalized decorations for our lockers. She is always doing for others, and now it is our turn to give back to her and let her know how much she is cherished and loved. In 2019 after struggling with constant back and leg pain, a tumor was found on her right kidney. In 2020, they removed the tumor with high hopes that they removed the tumor with "clean" borders. Speed ahead eighteen months later, lesions were discovered in her lungs. Oral treatments were started with immunotherapy infusions. Nine months later, pet scans showed the lesions in her lungs have increased in size, with new lesions found on her liver and left femur. Aileen and her medical team have made changes in her treatment to get more aggressive and target these cancer cells. She may also start radiation as well as having a rod placed in her femur to help stabilize the bone. The side effects are the worse part of the treatment. They have caused severe neuropathy in her hands and feet making it very difficult to work as a vascular nurse at the hospital. We would love to be able to ease the financial burden placed upon their family. Please share with everyone you know and show Aileen how much we care.
