Aimee and Sergio's adoption journey
Donation protected
An update: After months of planning and fully financing an adoption, Aimee and Sergio were ready to welcome a baby into their home. They named him, and traveled to hold him when he was born, only to learn that plans had changed and they would not be taking him home. They are, understandably, devastated.
Now, all the emotions, energy and hope, and resources, invested in this journey are lost. Unfortunately, this is how the system works. Aimee and Sergio were aware of this risk, but with all the conversations and assurances given, it seemed out of the question that this would be the result.
Right now, the feelings are still new and raw, and they aren’t ready to speak more about it quite yet. They are not giving up on their hopes to grow their family through adoption and they remain forever grateful for support from everyone here
My sister Aimee, her husband Sergio, and their incredible six year old son, Luca, are eager to grow their family through adoption. Aimee and Sergio always knew they wanted a large family and Luca longs for a sibling. After learning that they would no longer be able to have more biological children due to medical reasons two years ago, Aimee and Sergio began the arduous process of adoption.
During the past year, they opened up their home to two separate foster babies who were in need of a loving family in their first months of life. Both babies became part of theirs for a short time, and as a result, the eventual separation was heartbreaking. This led them to realize that though much more expensive, a domestic adoption was their only path forward.
As you may imagine, the cost of a domestic adoption is huge, averaging from $20,000-$40,000. They have managed to save some money in the last two years, knowing this would eventually be their path forward and they have applied for a few grants which are still pending. However, due to their fostering experiences, Aimee has used up most of her paid maternity leave and will not be getting a paycheck for several months.
Due to Aimee’s unwavering persistence, they recently learned of a promising adoption opportunity, much sooner than they ever anticipated. Aimee, Sergio, and Luca are currently extremely excited at this possibility and hope to be able to share more details in the coming weeks as this evolves.
My sister and Sergio are the most loving, nurturing parents and are ready to open their home and love a new baby as their own. Any donation you can give to help ease their financial burden would be greatly appreciated.
