WORLD GAMES IN ALABAMA 2022: ITALIAN NATIONAL TEAM

I am Nausicaa Dell'Orto, captain of the Italian National Women's American Football team. Our national team (both the men's and women's teams) has qualified to take part in the 2022 World Games: the Olympic Games for non-Olympic sports. The World Games will be organised by the NFL and held in Alabama, where the 8 strongest countries in the world will compete for the gold medal.
 
In Italy, our sport has been challenged by the pandemic, and we need your support to cover the expenses of the trip.


 
Here are 5 reasons why it is worth helping us:
 
1. Italy has never qualified for such an important competition in the sport. This is a unique event, the most important after the Olympics, supported by the IOC and dedicated to the 30 fastest growing non-Olympic sports in the world.  
 
2. Football is life for us, but we don't live off football. Like many sports in Italy, ours is considered an amateur sport, so during the day we have regular jobs and at night we turn into football players (like Superman in the phone booth). We make a lot of sacrifices to play this sport in Italy and we want to have the opportunity to fight for our  National team.
 
3. If you support the national team, you are helping out both the women's and men's teams because they both qualified for the World Games. Instead of writing tacky cards on Women's Day or Father's Day or Brother's Day,  support in a real and tangible way the women and men of this sport with a small contribution!
 
4. Through Football we promote very important values like  teamwork, dedication and solidarity. Many athletes of the national team (including myself) are also coaches of several junior teams. We want to set a good example and reach the highest levels of our sport, for ourselves but also for the future generations of girls and boys.
 
5. If the Italian national teams of volleyball, soccer or basketball didn't have the money to go to the Olympics, wouldn't you help them? OK, this is more of a question than a reason, but here we are in this situation. We are a 'minor' sport that does not have many headlines in the newspapers,but we are able to give fans strong emotions, to build a strong community and play this game with passion.

Sono Nausicaa Dell'Orto, capitano della Nazionale Italiana di Football Americano femminile. La nostra Nazionale (sia col team maschile che col team femminile)si è qualificata per partecipare ai World Games 2022: i giochi olimpici degli sport non olimpici. Quest'anno questa competizione importantissima sarà organizzata dalla NFL e si terrà negli Stati Uniti, in Alabama dove gli 8 paesi più forti del mondo si sfideranno per l'oro.
 
Il nostro sport è stato messo a dura prova dalla pandemia e per affrontare le spese di questa mega trasferta abbiamo bisogno del vostro supporto.
 
Ecco 5 ragioni per cui vale la pena aiutarci:
 
1. L'Italia non si è mai qualificata ad una competizione così importante in questo sport. Si tratta di un evento unico,  il più importante dopo le Olimpiadi, supportato dal CIO e dedicato alle 30 discipline sportive non olimpiche a più rapida crescita nel mondo. Un traguardo pazzesco, che solo un altro paese in Europa è riuscito a raggiungere, l’Austria.
 
2. Il football è la nostra vita, ma non viviamo di football. Come molti sport in Italia anche il nostro è considerato dilettantistico quindi di giorno abbiamo dei lavori normali e la notte ci trasformiamo in giocatori di football (tipo Superman nella cabina telefonica). Facciamo tanti sacrifici per portare avanti questo sport in Italia e vogliamo avere l'opportunità di lottare per i nostri colori.
 
3. Se supporti la Nazionale dai una mano sia a quella femminile che a quella maschile perché si sono qualificate entrambe le squadre ai World Games. Invece di fare auguri brutti alla festa della Donna o alla festa del papà o alla festa del fratello, aiutaci PER DAVVERO e supporta le donne e gli uomini di questo sport realmente anche con un piccolo contributo!
 
4. Il nostro sport è una scuola di vita, promuoviamo valori importanti come il lavoro di squadra e la solidarietà e molti dei nostri atleti in Nazionale (me compresa) allenano squadre di piccoli appassionati in tutta Italia. Vogliamo dare il buon esempio e arrivare ai massimi livelli del nostro sport, per noi stessi ma anche per le generazioni future di bambine e bambini.
 
5. Se la Nazionale Italiana di calcio, volley, basket o nuoto non avesse i soldi per andare alle Olimpiadi non li aiutereste? Ok questa è più una domanda che una ragione ma ecco, noi siamo in questa situazione. Siamo uno sport considerato "minore" che non gode delle luci della ribalta o dei titoloni sui giornali ma che al pari di tutti gli altri sa regalare agli appassionati emozioni forti, con il proprio bagaglio di valori, tradizioni e risultati frutto di sacrifici enormi e accesa passione.
