AJ Watts' Eagle Scout Project
Donation protected
As most of you know, I have been in the Boy Scouts since I was in the 7th grade. I am currently a Life Scout for Troop 371 in Mahopac New York and I am working towards my Eagle Scout rank, which is the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. One of my Eagle Scout requirements is to plan and execute a service project that will benefit my community.
I am a senior at Mahopac High School and have been involved in community service projects throughout my high school career. I have volunteered for community service hours at St. John's the Evangelist Church in Mahopac, New York. Through my community service hours I have helped the church collect food for different drives including the Thanksgiving Food Drive that they do annually. I visited the church to see if they could benefit from my Eagle Scout project. They directed me to a room that they are thinking of turning into their new Food Pantry. It is a 420sqft room in the basement of St. John the Evangelist Church.
St John's is part of the northeastern New York Regional Food Bank that has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. St John's distributes free bags of food every Friday from 10 a.m. to 12pm to anyone and everyone who shows up including children, single parents, seniors, working poor households, unemployed and the homeless in local Mahopac and Putnam County areas.
My fundraising task is to renovate a room that is currently being used as a storage closet, into a room that the church can utilize as a new food pantry. This includes a new floor made of interlocking rubber tiles, the walls painted, and a new shelving unit built for the use as the new food pantry. The cost of the materials is around $2,000. I am planning on completing my project in early January 2020. (Any extra money contributed will be donated to St. John's Food Pantry).
I am very grateful for any monetary contribution you can provide in assisting me with my Eagle Scout project.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
