Keith Wood's long road to recovery

Donation protected
Hi everyone, I know this news will come as a shock to most as we have been giving things time to unfold; My brother Keith suffered some very serious seizures that left him unconscious and not breathing with no vital signs. His girlfriend Sway, luckily woke up when she did and was able to start compressions and call 911. When EMS arrived he was not breathing on his own. He was stabilize on route to RVH where he then began having tonic clonic seizures. CT scans showed no signs of brain bleeds or anything else. And they anticipated he would recover from the seizures. After 48 hrs in emergency he was finally admitted to RVH as he was not recovering; he could not talk, walk or use his arms, and he could not stay awake for more then a few seconds.

After a week at RVH, numerous test, and Sway advocating for him to receive compassionate care and further testing; an MRI has determined that Keith has suffered an anoxic brain injury, from lack of oxygen to the brain, as we are unsure how many seizures Keith had or how long he was not breathing before Sway found him.
Doctor's believe he has had underlying Epilepsy since he was hit by a transport truck 9 years ago, and that he has been having seizures which have been witnessed, and are now treating as epileptic seizures. Keith has made some progress, however he has had some set backs; currently Keith cannot see in both eyes, has no use of his arms and hands, and can get out one or two word at a time, but mostly just yes or no. Keith has been able to sit up with assistance and take a few steps with 3 person support.

Dr's do not have a timeline, but have told us to prepare for a very long road to recovery. He has recently been struggling with many of the emotional and psychological aspects of a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury), but has the most amazing support from family, and his girlfriend Sway who has barely left his side and has no plans to either.

I am starting this GoFundMe for my brother Keith and his girlfriend Sway to help with the costs of associated with long hospital stays. Money raised will go towards a monthly parking pass at RVH and travel for family and friends. Also hospital food sucks and Keith enjoys being able to be taken down to the Cafeteria for an Ice Capp or lunch when possible.

Getting Keith back on his feet and hopefully being able to come home is the long term goal however where he currently lives now cannot accommodate the needs he will likely have moving forward. Sway and I are looking to bring our families together and rent a house that can accommodate Keith, his care, and being able to come home to a place that is not only comfortable but safe. Money raised would be used for first and last, moving costs and making his home accessible.

Any unused money will be donated to https://epilepsytoronto.org/ an amazing organization that Sway has actually worked with in the past.

Anything helps. $5 will get him an Ice Capp and put a smile on his face. And if you are unable to donate, please share or consider donating at a later time. If EMT is preferred please reach out to me, Erinn Wood. Keith is aware that we are starting this GoFundMe and would like to thank everyone in advance.

From Sway, our family and I, thank you for any prayers and support you can give us during this time. <3
