To complete my dream.

Hello, my name is Diego Orozco. I believe there is a time in every kid's life when they get asked a very important question: what do you want to be when you grow up? My answer to that has always been a pilot, and even though, like every other kid, I went through my firefighter/construction worker/truck driver/professional athlete stage, I always came back around to being a pilot. This interest was only fueled more by the times I have been inside an airplane. I still remember when the passion for becoming a pilot really began. I was about six years old and was coming back to the United States after living in Mexico for four years. I remember clearly going through security to board the plane and waiting anxiously to go inside. Once we were in the air I remember how calming the view was. Seeing the normal life grow smaller and smaller as you go higher and higher in the air. To me being in the air is something relaxing. Having only the noise of the two engines pushing you through the air to me has always been relaxing. Now that I am about to start my college career to accomplish that childhood dream, I find myself in a position that a lot of people face, how am I going to pay for my education and sponsor this dream that I have had since being a little kid. This coming fall I will be starting college at Lewis University located about 40 minutes west of downtown Chicago. Most of my tuition has been covered through federal and institutional financial aid. The expensive part is paying for the flight program. As any pilot knows flight training is very expensive and hard to pay for. Being the son of two immigrant parents student loans are currently not an option for me as I don’t have credit and my parents, being immigrants, cannot borrow that money for me. We have scoured the internet for ways to be able to pay for college but we have come up short in all of them. I have applied to a variety of scholarships from multiple companies but unfortunately have not received any. Being a pilot for me is more than just making money and traveling the world, it would be the accomplishment of a lifelong dream, it would be finally becoming who I want to be.
