Family and friends, we are asking for your prayers and support. As most of you know, my brother AJ was diagnosed with Diabetes at the early age of 13.
In March 2020, my brother started hemodialysis due to Stage 5 kidney failure. Since then, my mom, Lea, had to stop working to provide full-time care for AJ. Because of his Diabetes, AJ is now partially blind and has lost hearing in his right ear.
While at home on Christmas Eve 2022, AJ was rushed to the hospital complaining of unbearable back pain and was in and out of the Emergency Room until he was finally admitted on January 4, 2023, after an accidental fall at home. The ER doctor informed my mom that AJ's bilirubin level was "very high". Less than 24 hours after being discharged (January 11) from the hospital, AJ had to be admitted again due to very low blood pressure. After additional tests, the ER doctor told my mom that his liver was bleeding and they had stopped it with a liver patch. He was discharged on January 16 after his blood pressure returned to normal. AJ started doing physical therapy and was able to walk around with the help of his walker.
On January 26, he was again admitted to the hospital due to high blood pressure. He has not been discharged because his doctors are concerned about his bilirubin levels and they are referring my mom to have my brother seen by a liver specialist ASAP. Unfortunately, there are no liver specialists in Guam. The only option is for AJ to consult with a liver specialist off-island, preferably in the Philippines due to travel time.
While Guam Medical Regional City can take care of scheduling the appointments needed at St. Luke's Medical Center in the Philippines, we are humbly asking for donations to assist with my brother's medical expenses as they will not be covered by his insurance. We are grateful and appreciative of any support you can provide.
