AJ Lives in Cape Town, South Africa.  He is my nephew’s brilliant friend. He is a bright, confident, responsible, resilient, kind and determined young man. Besides doing well in his school work, he plays for Grassboots Soccer club which is where the two boys met.
AJ’s family struggle to make ends meet. He is living with his adoptive mother (who is ill with diabetes), his sister and her 2 children. His sister who was the sole provider, recently lost her call center job. They live in a shack in Phillipi.

We need R90 000 ($7500) per year annum for the next 3 years to help AJ complete High School. We may then continue the fund to get him through college, or he could pick up a scholarship.

AJ is at the high risk age for dropping out of school to seek work to support his family, but he is determined to succeed.

By helping him go to college we can hopefully break the cycle of poverty in his family. He will be paying forward to end this cycle.

He would like to be a school teacher, soccer coach or an accountant. In AJ’s words :

“I want to study to have a matric, then go further. I want to study at university (college)  if it is it all possible. I would love to study and obtain three degrees in my life even more being a teacher as teachers play such a vital role in the future of South African Children. I want to play a  role in moulding a South African child for a better future. I also want a coaching degree. I have a passion and a love for football. I just can’t depend on football alone. I also want to become a Chartered Accountant(C.A.) as one of my strengths in school is maths and I really enjoy working with numbers. At school whenever we have accountancy class the lessons always excite me.

I would like to have two children of my own and give them a better life than the one I had. I want to be there for my children. I want them to have a healthy home environment where both parents are present not like the one I had where I was raised by a single parent who was ill and wasn’t working and had no source of income.”

Help us to put AJ through High School. Any small amount will help. There will be two trustees who will manange the fund and provide guidance to AJ to ensure he gets the education he deserves and fulfills his potential.
