AJ's trip to Youth Leadership Camp
Donation protected
Hello, my name is AJ, and I am a Black and Deaf young male from Washington D.C. I am currently a senior at Model Secondary School for the Deaf, and I come from a hearing family. I am excited to share that I have been accepted to attend the Youth Leadership Camp (YLC) from June 26 to July 21, 2023, in Portland, Oregon. This will be my first time at a Deaf camp and my first time being on the West coast! I am reaching out for support to attend this camp.
Attending YLC will be a fantastic learning experience for me, where I hope to develop my leadership skills and increase my awareness to become a leader in the community. As a sports enthusiast, I also believe this opportunity will help me become a better leader in sports.
My ultimate goal is to contribute my leadership skills back to the National Black Deaf Advocates (NBDA) community by attending general meetings and community events to support NBDA. I also hope to participate in the Youth Empowerment Summit (Y.E.S.) as a staff member in the future.
I would appreciate any support to cover my travel and camp registration fees. I do not have the funds to cover my travel expenses as I am in school. In order to achieve my dream, I am doing some fundraising as it will undoubtedly help me become a better person and build skills for the future. Additionally, I believe the deaf community needs more BIPOC leaders, and this camp will equip me with the tools to become one.
I am asking for $5,000 to cover travel expenses, Here is a price breakdown;
3,500 for YLC fee
1,000 for Airfare
500 for supplies and food
Thank you for your support!
