Cancer stinks

My brother, Lyle, recently went in for his screening colonoscopy. He was also having a lot of heartburn. It was recommended he have an EGD, where they look at his esophagus and stomach as well. Especially since he has had ulcers and chronic stomach issues for years. He had also lost 40 lbs in a matter of months.
Lyle is a single guy. He lives on 20 acres in the country primarily to help our 85 year old father, who purchased the “hobby farm” in the early 70’s. Without Lyle’s assistance he would not be able to remain on his beloved land.
Lyle’s colonoscopy discovered a couple polyps which were not a concern. We were expecting to hear about an ulcer or problems with reflux when his doctor stated he has Esophageal Cancer that has almost closed off his entire throat. We were in shock. Speechless. The doctor advised him to go on immediate disability.
Our last 5 years have been extremely rough. Our mother died very suddenly in 2013, the next three years our father was in and out of the hospital for several medical issues. In 2017, our older brother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and I had major health concerns which required several surgeries and and visits to Mayo Clinic. I have fully recovered but unfortunately our brother, Larry, passed away in October 2018.
Lyle held down the fort during these last five years. Making sure our Dad was able to continue to live on his own in the country. Maintaining the home and land, providing companionship, driving to appointments, etc.
Lyle is a mechanical guy. He works at a small business in Chatham, IL. The company only has a handful of employees and no benefits. Lyle is a conservative spender but the level of medical expenses coming in are overwhelming and he currently has no income.
He has had multiple diagnostic tests done, almost daily doctor appointments, a chemo therapy port placed, and tattoos for radiation treatments. Radiation treatments are daily for 6 weeks and chemo treatments are every other week through August. Then the plan is to wait 8 weeks for his health to improve enough to handle an operation. In September he will hopefully be ready to have surgery to remove the cancer mass at the base of his esophagus and upper stomach. It will be a major gastric reconstruction.
We pray that will be the end of this current storm!
He has been advised to go on disability until after his surgery and recovery in the fall.
Disability payments won’t kick in for at least 4 months. At this time he has no income.
I am his sister and that is Lyles story. Please consider a small donation to get him through this awful time. We appreciate anything you are able to contribute. Our family has always been blessed with wonderful supportive friends. I thank you in advance for any donation you make.
