Akila's Recovery from Breast Cancer

Donation protected
This is a GoFundMe for our dear friend Akila Wienecke.

UPDATED!
Now that Akila is cancer-free and recovering, it's almost time for reconstructive surgery! Her procedure is sheduled for December 13th. It should be a shorter recovery time, but will still require some missed work, lost wages, and expenses.

We are raising money to cover potential bills, rent, and cost of living during this time. Akila has insurance, but there are still going to be costs, both financial and emotional. We hope that by lessening the stress of the first, we can also give her and her family space to deal with the latter.

Breast cancer can be a difficult recovery not just in terms of physical healing, but also because it can bring a radical change in body image. Reconstructive surgery will help Akila heal from this experience and feel like herself again.

Akila is a great friend, mom, and activist, and now, Cancer Survivor. We can help celebrate that achievement and ease that journey.

If you can give, please do. Sharing the link would be a great help as well. If you can't give financially, there is also a Mealtrain (link here: https://mealtrain.com/kk9042) set up to help provide some dinners on dates when Akila knows there will be a surgery or appointment date.

Thank you for supporting #AkilaCancerFree!
