Akka Project- Mums and Teens Volunteering
Donation protected
About Us:
We are a passionate group of mothers dedicated to raising our children as compassionate global citizens. Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for our children to connect and learn with their peers in India. This July, we will be traveling to Bangalore, India, with our teenage daughters to volunteer at Parikrma Humanity Foundation, a school dedicated to educating street and slum children.
Our Background:
Our team comprises individuals from both educational and corporate backgrounds along with our teenage daughters. United by our common goal, we aim to support Parikrma Humanity Foundation with our time, skills, and experiences, giving back to the community that welcomes us with open arms.
Why We Need Your Help:
We are raising funds to ensure that the impact we make is both meaningful and long-lasting. All contributions will go directly to Parikrma Humanity Foundation, which is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing free quality education and healthcare to underprivileged children.
Your donations will fund essential resources to support children aged 5-18 in their learning and development. This includes school supplies, teacher development opportunities, and programs that extend students' education.
We are also raising funds to purchase period underwear for 100 girls, a donation of $15 will purchase one pair of underwear, a little goes a very long way to empowering teens to feeling comfortable as well as being a sustainable and environmental way to have a big impact.
The Akka Project:
Our mission is to empower mothers and teens to engage in proactive community involvement through a unique volunteering experience that fosters personal growth and social responsibility. During this journey, mothers and teens will build lasting connections, becoming 'akka' (big sister) figures and making a positive impact at Parikrma Humanity Foundation.
At the Akka Project, we believe we have an ethical obligation to actively demonstrate empathy and compassion to our children, not just talk about it. In today’s busy world, teens can easily get caught up in fashion, trends, and social media. This experience brings us one step closer to realizing our vision of raising globally-minded and compassionate young women.
About Parikrma
Parikrma Humanity Foundation, a Bangalore-based NGO, has been transforming the lives of children from underserved communities for over 21 years. Serving more than 2,500 students from 99 slum communities across four schools and a junior college, Parikrma follows a 360-degree development model that ensures holistic growth. This comprehensive approach covers education, nutrition, healthcare, and family support, empowering children to break the cycle of poverty. At the heart of this transformation is the "Parikrma Way," a values-based learning approach that nurtures not just academic excellence but also compassion, resilience, and the mindset of responsible global citizens. Students are encouraged to develop a strong sense of social responsibility, critical thinking, and self-confidence, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to an interconnected world. With an impressive 98% of students progressing to college and less than 1% dropout rate, Parikrma’s impact is reflected in the success of its 1,700+ alumni, who now thrive in fields like engineering, management, law, and medicine.
It’s truly a remarkable organisation and one we are excited to support. Thank you for your donations, we look forward to taking this with us on our volunteering project and put funds into actions.
