Akosua’s healing from breast cancer.

Donation protected
Our sister Akosua is a spirited and resilient 31-year-old teacher from Baltimore, MD. Since 2018, Akosua has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to her students, having educated over 300 young minds from kindergarten through ninth grade. Akosua is a published author and graduate of Johns Hopkins University and American University. She currently resides in Baltimore, MD with her father, her nephew (for whom she recently became primary caregiver) and the cutest little cat.

As an educator, she takes pride in weaving a tapestry of knowledge, compassion, and creativity in the lives of her students. Her impact stretches far beyond the classroom, leading extracurricular activities after school and teaching mindfulness practices to support their personal growth and development. Akosua is known to her loved ones for her ability to discover and share the joys of life. Whether she's crafting stories, immersed in the pages of a novel, or painting her dreams on canvas, she finds solace and strength in her creative pursuits. Nature is her sanctuary, where she often retreats to find peace and inspiration.

Akosua’s life took an unexpected turn last year when she discovered a lump in her breast. After several months of relentless self-advocacy, she was diagnosed with breast cancer in early July. She has navigated this unpredictable journey with courage and grace and is currently receiving chemotherapy while continuing to teach full-time. During this time, her workplace has provided support and flexibility, but unfortunately the Baltimore City Public Schools district recently denied her request for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) support. She is seeking accommodations through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) however the process has been arduous and unresponsive, leaving her in a precarious situation, especially when it comes to covering medical expenses and maintaining a stable environment for herself and her nephew.

We are seeking donations on Akosua’s behalf to alleviate the financial burden that this has created. Our hope is that we can offer AB the peace of mind to focus on her treatment and recovery and help her continue to be the inspiring teacher, loving caregiver, and vibrant individual that she is. Your contribution, regardless of its size, will make a profound impact.
