Support Siblings Displaced by 2-Alarm Roxbury Fire
Donation protected
On March 15th, 2024 at 8:45am, siblings Juan and Juliana’s lives changed drastically after a two-alarm house fire at their home in Roxbury. The fire destroyed the back porch and Juan’s bedroom, and structurally damaged the integrity of the building. It has been deemed unlivable by the authorities until repairs to the structure can be made. Estimates by the landlord are that repairs will take at least 3-6 months.
Juli and Juan, and their cat Bodhi, were thankfully physically unharmed by the fire and are temporarily being housed by community but now face a long recovery. They must now replace essentials, valuables, and furniture they lost in the fire and its aftermath. More importantly they are now urgently looking for housing in Boston, a city with one of the highest rent burdens in the country.
If you’ve ever been to their lovely home, you may have experienced a meditation session or two, nourishing cooked meals with ingredients from their garden, a picnic in their backyard, kickbacks, love from their pets, or even been housed in their spare room. Juli and Juan are big community organizers and often opened up their home to friends and community as an inclusive, sacred space for those who needed grounding, support and healing. This house fire not only impacts Juli, Juan, and Bodhi but also their mother who visits for long periods of time and community members for whom this was a place of refuge.
Juli and Juan have poured so much into their community and now we get the opportunity to support and pour love onto them. Your prayers, well wishes and financial contributions are critical to their recovery from this life-altering event.
