Al Bassir: School of the Blind and Deaf
Donation protected
Salaam and Ramadan Mubarak,
As we approach the last 10 days of ramadan, I have chosen to raise funds for a school who caters to the deaf and blind in Somalia. This school is extremely underfunded which is preventing most of the kids from learning further and flourishing in their education. They are in need of basic learning materials that we may often take for granted.
Challenges the school faces:
The school has no current existing funding streams and therefore depend on the handouts of Somali Diaspora, which has been significantly affected by the current crisis. The school has next to no equipment and needs brailing machines, braille papers, teaching materials and toys suitable for those with visual and hearing impairments.
The school doesn't own a permanent building, but relies on renting private housing, and has had to move several times in the last year in order to find an inexpensive and safe environment for the children and staff.
There is no medical support for the blind and deaf children. The children's blindness is predominantly caused by measles, cataracts and war injuries. Unfortunately, the school is currently limited to 59 children because of the lack of space and trained staff to accommodate more than this number. The long term plan is to move to a spacious compound where the children can play freely, improve their mobility skills, and provide them with the education they deserve.
With YOUR help we expect some blind children to be given the opportunity to regain their sight (fully or partially) by medical intervention. This will enable some to move on to a mainstream, regular education as their sighted peers.
The school has a waiting list of 297 blind children in different regions but cannot provide them with access to education since they are in a very small compound.
With your help we can make a difference and smash the target. Any contribution is welcome and greatly appreciated.
Why give charity? Charity Will be A Shade on the Day of Judgement. The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The believer's shade on the day of Resurrection will be his Charity". (Al Tirmidhi)
"Genorisity is near to Allah, near to Paradise, near to the people, and far from Hellfire" (Al Tirmidhi)
“Allah, the Exalted, says, ‘Spend, O son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.’” – Prophet Muhammad, upon him be peace (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
