AL FERRELL

The family of Al Ferrell asked me to create a GoFund me page to help during this unexpected time of illness.

James (Al) Ferrell has lived in Hawthorne for 50+ years. He has been a firefighter both paid and volunteer at the Hawthorne Fire Department and/or the Base Fire Department since 1977, serving our community as a dedicated and caring first responder.

Al enjoys spending time with his family and volunteering in the community. He also enjoys refereeing and umpiring for both our youth and adult sporting events.

Big Al was first diagnosed with cancer in 2013 and fought the fight. He beat the ugly disease and has been fortunate and thankful to be able to live a great life since. Unfortunately, last month the doctors found a mass on his pancreas. The mass is malignant. Al is not giving in or up, he plans to fight this battle once again.

With this diagnosis Al and his family face another long journey of surgeries and various other treatments. As we all know, living in a rural remote location such as Hawthorne, means a lot of traveling and expenses. With this diagnosis there will be many long travel trips, days away from work, and overnight stays for he and his wife. All of this results in a lot of money.

Al has been a staple in our community, giving unselfish time and care to our residents, let’s show support and gratitude to this great man and help with his expenses. Anything will help.
