Help Save Alameda Aikikai!!!

Greetings Everyone:

Alameda Aikikai has been a staple in the Aikido community and on the island since January of 1991, when Mike Flynn Sensei opened the dojo.

Throughout the history of Alameda Aikikai we have offered classes for both children and adults.  The training classes consist of exercises and techniques that promote mental awareness, enhanced coordination, character-building and self-esteem.  In addition, children are taught social skills and teamwork.

Alameda Aikikai has been located at its current site for more than 15 years.  Last year, however, the City of Alameda approved plans to demolish the area where the dojo is located in order to construct new apartment buildings.  This action has forced us to search for a new location on the island.

Due to these extreme circumstances, and due to the rising rents in the Bay Area, we are unprepared and unable to move locations due to the need for a large space to accommodate all the junior and senior students we have enrolled.  For these reasons we are asking for your assistance.  The community of Alameda Aikikai is a family, and we love our training very much. But we find that we must raise funds for a new space so that we can continue to train together. We would appreciate any support that you could give for this endeavor.

Tancinco Sensei, who has been the Chief Instructor at the dojo for the last 15 years, will be moving away from the Bay Area in the not-to-distance future.  Upon his departure, Mitsu Nobusada-Flynn will be assuming the role of Chief Instructor at Alameda Aikikai.

Alameda Aikikai has, during its long history, fostered a cohesive bond between our members, especially among those of the same family.  More importantly, the training teaches discipline, self-esteem and respect to the next generation of the world.  We hope to be able to continue the work of preparing the future generations of our country with great discipline, drive and the ability to overcome failures for many more years to come.

Thank you all for your support!!!
