UPDATE:

Alan had a second back surgery yesterday. Here is the update from Amy.
He finally just got out of surgery a few minutes ago. It has been a long long day. He was supposed to have surgery at noon. He finally got taken at 2:15. It was supposed to take an hour and it took just under three hours. They think they have it all stabilized, and, hope everything will heal into the bone the way it’s supposed to and stays stable. They think we will probably be in the hospital at least through the weekend. It’s possible he could need a 3rd surgery. Right now they feel everything looks good, but we will just have to wait to see how it all heals.

Amy has touched the lives of so many students during her many years as an educator. Alan and Amy are in need of some assistance during this time of medical issues. Please help if you can with prayers or financially. I know Amy and Alan will appreciate it.

Amy's Facebook Post:
I haven’t shared much of what’s been going on with our family regarding our health, but I felt compelled to share this morning to ask for prayers for our family from anyone who is willing. I apologize for the lengthy post in advance. 2023 has not been kind to us, and to say the least I am ready for this year to be over. In March I had a hysterectomy and had some complications so recovery was slow. Just a few days before my surgery my dad had open heart surgery and that’s been an up and down journey for him and my mom. He will be having another heart surgery in October. Beginning last October/November Alan Minor started having a lot pain in his upper back and tingling and numbness down one arm. An MRI showed damage in his neck and upper back but that MRI also caught the bottom of his thyroid. By the grace of God that MRI sent him to have further testing on his thyroid which resulted in him having a thyroidectomy in May. Pathology showed the growth on the thyroid was cancer. It was caught very early and all testing shows him to be cancer free. He had to go through several months of regulating thyroid medication which was much harder than we could have ever anticipated. Now, after months of fighting the insurance company and dealing with his thyroid, he is finally having his spinal surgery and currently I am sitting at the Kansas Spine Hospital waiting for him to get out of surgery. Please pray his surgery is successful and he gets relief from the pain and tingling that is now going down both arms, as well as the horrible headaches he experiences regularly. Also keep my dad and mom in your prayers as he faces another heart surgery. I am so ready for better days and pray Alan comes out the other side of this with much needed relief. He will be off work for several weeks so we need all the prayers we can get for many reasons.

Update: Alan's surgery was not as successful as the doctor's had hoped. They were unable to repair as much of the damage needed to give him relief. He is possibly facing another surgery in the near future.
