Friday evening after having a family dinner, Alanah's lungs collapsed. The cause is still unknown. She was gone for about 40 minutes but medical personnel were able to get her back & she was life flighted to Fargo. She was then in a coma which they believed to only be for a few days. They gave a paralytic as she was trying to breathe on her own but it was only making things worse. Saturday morning Alanah started having seizures & they had also discovered severe brain damage. Later that evening Alanahs brain had started swelling due her heart stopping & cutting off oxygen for those 40 minutes. She was not responding to any of the medications that medical personnel had tried to stop the swelling. She stayed the same all day Sunday, even with the brain damage they had decided to give her 2 months to fight & come back to us. Unfortunately, overnight her swelling had progressed; things took a turn for the worst. Monday morning Alanah could no longer breathe on her own, & Dr's had lost hope of her coming home so they gave her until Thursday to see if their was any progress. They had another MRI done, and the results were the same. She had massive brain damage. Her mother had then called everyone to come say their final goodbyes. Monday evening the brain swelling had started pushing down on her brain stem. Tuesday morning the doctors had started saying that the brain swelling was going to start causing her organs to shut down. Later that afternoon, doctors performed a brain death test. Unfortunately Alanah did not pass. Her mom then made the difficult decision to have one last night with her & then take her off of life support the morning of Wednesday, September 14th, 2022 where she passed peacefully. Now, Alanah flies with the butterflies.
Alanah was a spunky & creative 9 year old. She had just started the 4th grade at Ben Franklin Elementary School & was looking forward to starting the violin. Alanah loved turkey sandwiches, kinder eggs and I-C-E cream. She loved building so much, she could build anything out of Legos & could build forts out of anything. Alanah played of minecraft & roblox, could do it for days on end. She was a little girl with many silly faces and a jack of all trades. Although her mom and little sister Aurora were her best friend in the entire world, she had lots of friends & people who loved and cared deeply for her like her brother Malachi & older sister Annika. She loved being outdoors especially riding her skateboard and playing at the park. She also enjoyed making TikToks with her mom. Alanah was so sympathetic & caring, she was always her moms rock through the trails of being a single mom. Her mom has now met an amazing man, Jeff who loves Alanah like a father & completes their family. She will be greatly missed by so many. All the proceeds will go directly to the family to help with costs.
