Alanis San Miguel is off to teach in Spain!
Donation protected
Hola! Alanis San Miguel just received acceptance to the prestigious CIEE, and will be heading to Madrid, Spain to teach English in their public school system for 9 months starting fall 2022! CIEE is a nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization that transforms lives and builds bridges between individuals and nations by sponsoring a wide variety of opportunities for the exchange of ideas and experiences.
Alanis has always had an interest in learning and experiencing other cultures and languages overseas. During her time at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, she's spread her wings and travelled to Italy, Greece, Germany, Poland, and various areas of Mexico with student groups and family. She started her interest in exploring full time teaching opportunities, which would allow her to live and work overseas, teaching English to the native population. Those goals were delayed so she could spend precious time with her beloved brother before he passed. We know Cisco is smiling down knowing she's off to have this experience. Now, it's her time to take a big step forward in her career and to call herself an "international citizen"!
CIEE does help with some of the expenses and provides a small monthly salary, but the vast majority falls on her. Alanis has worked 2 jobs for the last couple of years to save for her share of expenses, including plane tickets, lodging, meals, transportation, travel around Madrid and Europe, and more. While fall 2022 is a bit of ways off, she has expenses now to confirm her spot and a lot of planning to do over the next few months to make sure she is good to go.
Let's get Alanis off to Madrid knowing these expenses are covered and hopefully a bit more so she can enjoy this once in a lifetime experience, be able to travel Europe, and make the most of this new chapter! Any donation is not only accepted but really appreciated!
I'm blessed to know her and her parents, Oscar and Sandra Chapa San Miguel. They've been lifelong best friends and family. If you're from Del Rio, you know the spirit, generosity, and strong family values of them and their extended families. Anita Ortiz Lubke
