Alaska to Argentina - Ice to Ice Challenge

My name is James Benson-King and I am currently undertaking one of the biggest challenges of my life - Cycling Alaska to Argentina for Cardiac Risk in the Young. I am starting at the northernmost point you can reach by road on the American continent in Deadhorse, Alaska and finishing at the southern most point in Ushuaia, Argentina. The projected distance is 18,000 miles and will take 8-12 months to complete.

Here's all the ways you can follow my journey with links to the sources!

Why Cardiac Risk in the Young?
Cardiac Risk in the Young (or CRY) has become my charity of choice in recent years. Having had a heart condition myself through my childhood and losing a friend and team mate at university to heart complications I have tried to raise as much money as I can for them over the past few years. For both of these reasons I decided for this trip to setup another gofundme page with the aim of raising £2,500 which covers a days cardiac screening run by the charity. All funds raised will go directly to CRY in memory of Alex Hubbard.

Why the Ice to Ice Challenge/Alaska to Argentina?
I met a close friend almost 5 years ago whilst travelling through Myanmar who was on a cycling trip. He described his journey and convinced me to do something like this myself. A seed was quickly planted and it became part of my 5 year plan. I started by becoming proficient on my bike. I setup and completed a few charity challenges such as Lands End to John O'Groats (1,000 miles cycling in 11 days) and The Tour De Dorset (210 miles in 17 hours) both of which have already raised funds for CRY. After completing these I started researching the tour itself before I was confident enough to take the final leap. In March I handed in my notice at work and booked my flights to Alaska. The trip finally became real and the final touch preparations were underway!

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me!

More information about Cardiac Risk in the Young:
Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was established in 1995 to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths (YSCD, SADS) through awareness, screening and research; and to support affected families. CRY funds fast-track services at the CRY Centre for Inherited Cardiovascular Conditions and Sports Cardiology and the CRY Centre for Cardiac Pathology.
