Alastair’s Tube Challenge

On Friday 30 August 2019, Alastair, assisted by Eddie, Ella and Harry, will be attempting a Tube Challenge, whereby Alastair will be attempting to visit all of London’s 270 London Underground stations in one day, starting just before 6am, and with an estimated finish time of around 12:30am on the Saturday morning.

The Story of #TubeChallenge
#TubeChallenge is our way to say Thank You. Thank You to every single person who came out to us on what was, without doubt, the most difficult night of my life. The circumstance of losing my Dad in the way we did will stick with me forever.

Not just the fact I was able to give him what was described as “the best CPR ever seen by a non medical professional”, but more the great number of medical professionals who were sent, who included 2 Doctors from MERIT (the North East’s Medical Emergency Response Incident Team). MERIT offers an 8pm to 8am overnight Doctor and Critical Care cover for the entire North East region. However, besides Friday and Saturday nights, it is paid for by charity funds.

With more help, the service can be expanded beyond Thursday to Sunday nights, and hopefully provide 7 day cover across the region, allowing even more critically ill patients to access this level of expertise.

In addition to all of this, the Great North Air Ambulance Service’s core offering provides 3 helicopters covering the North East and Cumbria. This service is also funded entirely through donations, and will also be supported thanks to our Tube Challenge.

Even though you won’t be there on the trains, we still want you to be a part of #TubeChallenge on social media.
