Alayna’s road to recovery after being diagnosed with cancer

My 4 yr old niece Alayna was just diagnosed with Cancer. Shes the oldest of 3 & a miracle baby. She had odd symptoms for a while which eventually led to a thunderclap migraine on March 1st. A referral for an MRI was sent out and then preformed on March 18th where they found a large tumor in her brain that had grown to a point of blocking CSF fluid from leaving her brain. They began medication to prep her body for brain surgery March 24th. During the surgery they placed an EVD on the top right of her brain & then went in through the back removing her C1. After doing this, they learned the brain tumor wasn’t on her cerebellum pushing against her brainstem but on her brainstem pushing against her cerebellum. This changed route of removal. Unfortunately they weren’t able to completely remove the tumor fully here in Boise safely, and the cerebellum trauma left her with (hopefully) temporary mobility delays & stroke like symptoms on the left side of her body. She’s having to relearn to sit, stand, walk and use her arm/hand. Her vision and eye stability was also affected.

On March 30th her EVD was removed after an MRI showed her brain was favorable for removal.

On April 2nd she was diagnosed with Grade 3 Ependymoma. Cancer.

She was sent home with home health care, while we await port placement, spinal tap & treatment. Her drs here are great but their statistics aren’t great for cure. My sister is in contact with St. Jude in TN and looking into other options. Alayna cannot be on a plane and wherever they find a better opportunity for treatment is where they will be residing for the 5-13 weeks.

Unfortunately Alayna’s fight has just began.
