Albert Hemmesch (aka, Big Red #24)
Donation protected
Albert was in a car accident on Thursday, March 30th. Due to severity of his brain injury, he was airlifted to North Memorial in the cities and was in critical condition. They immediately did surgery to remove part of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain that was caused by swelling and shifting of the brain. Since the accident, the medical staff have been working to decrease his sedation and his reliance on the breathing tube. It has been very exciting to see his progress in the last few days, as he has been responding appropriately to squeezing hands, giving a thumbs up and kicking his legs. Although these improvements are huge, Albert still has a long road ahead.
Since Albert works in road construction, he had just gotten back to working after being laid off for part of the winter. With this pause in his income and now with his unknown future, his bills are starting to stack up. With no income coming in, Albert is at risk of losing his house and ability to support his children, who are currently 10, 5 and 1.
Multiple people have reached out to us asking how they can help during this difficult time. We've decided to create a GoFundMe page, along with a bank account, to provide everyone with an option to financially support Albert.
We sincerely appreciate all the love and support we've received this last week. The prayers are definitely working, as we continue to see progress on his long journey to recovery! Thanks again for any help you can give at this time!
