Albert Yin, a 13-year-old from Glenwood, Maryland, died suddenly and unexpectedly in a drowning accident on June 29th, 2018, in a lake near Interlaken, Switzerland.
Albert was a popular student at Glenwood Middle School where he excelled as a student and played cello in the school orchestra. He was elected vice president of the National Junior Honor Society and was well-loved by his classmates and teachers.
He was also a piano prodigy who performed in concert halls all over the world. Albert started playing piano when he was five years old and enjoyed traveling with his piano school friends, who grew up as his musical brothers and sisters. Most recently, he performed at the Culture and Convention Centre in Lucerne where he played the Hungarian Rhapsody by Liszt beautifully and powerfully just one day before the tragedy.
Albert was one of the best ice hockey players in the state of Maryland, starring as a forward (#10) for the Tri-City Eagles and, most recently, for Team Maryland, the only AAA team in the state. He competed year-round throughout the United States and Canada, dazzling his teammates and coaches with his explosive speed and powerful shots. Off the ice, Albert was beloved by his teammates, who will always remember his warm smile and fun-loving demeanor.
The Yin family is very grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. Daxu, Haiyan and Maggie are especially comforted to know that so many people loved and were touched by Albert.
All donations will be used to cover funeral expenses and to establish the Albert Yin Memorial Scholarship in his memory.
