“Lord I’m Ready” the lost songs of Justin Townes Earle
In September of 2023 Sammy drove up North for some very special packages. He met up with Justin's wife Jenn and drove out to an old storage unit that houses the memories of Justin Townes Earle. Rummaging through old boxes and suitcases, they shared a moment that was 3 years in the making. Together they were able to share stories and memories of somebody they both cared for deeply in their own ways. There weren't any tears, there were only smiles as they talked about time spent with him. Choosing to focus on all the good times, there wasn’t any room for sadness.
The treasure that they were seeking was a couple of boxes that only Justin had ever gotten into. In those boxes were journals of all sizes and colors, and on numerous legal pads were the thoughts and songs of one of the greatest modern day songwriters. From some of our favorite songs, to never before heard ones, to half written ramblings, they got a peek into the creative process of Justin Townes Earle.
Sammy spent that winter in his home in Utah organizing and archiving Justin’s writings and then uploading them onto a drive to keep safe forever. While doing this, he found some incredible songs that never made it to the studio. He also found half written songs he then proceeded to finish. Along the way he also was able to sit with own thoughts and write a song to finally say goodbye to his friend. When he was finished, he had an album worth of material that he wanted to share with the world.
Sammy decided the only people that should profit from this album are Justin's wife and daughter, Jenn and Etta. That’s why upon completion of the album we will find a distribution deal with all proceeds of the music going directly to Justin’s family.
What we are asking from you is this. Please help us fund these incredible songs.
Sammy is scheduled to go down to Muscle Shoals, Alabama and record in Sundrop Studios with his friend Ben Tanner (of the Alabama Shakes) in August.
This will cost approximately 40k which will pay for all the studio musicians, recording, mixing, mastering, and room & board for the session. Anything over the budget will be used for the promotion of this album and tour support.
We urge everybody who sees this to at the very least please share this project with your friends. This is our way of saying thank you to a friend that we will never truly be able to repay for his selflessness, time, kindness, support, and friendship. Justin was an incredible songwriter, but for those that really knew him, you knew just how great of a man he was.
Thanks for even considering contributing to this project.

“Thank you all for stopping by our fundraiser. Justin did more for me as a musician and for me as an inspiring artist in an industry that will eat you up than anybody I ever had on my “team”. He looked after me in a way that nobody in the industry could and that people will ever know. Justin came from Steve, who named him after Townes. He lived up to the names artistically better than anyone out there could have. I don’t know of another artist that inspired me more and to be more. Not just in Music, but in life. He had his demons, but he would make it perfectly clear that that was not my road and to find my own path. I will never be able to thank him enough. That is why I'm doing this album. To say thank you to a mentor and friend.”
