What is Alchemy Space pole and fitness?  

THE VISION

My name is Laura Martin, some know me as Flying Laura from my pole dance career. I am a long time pole artist, of 21 years and I am now the creatrix of a new pole, fitness, and wellness boutique, that I am opening in my hometown of Kansas City, Mo. called Alchemy Space ! 

Like so many, this last year my life has radically changed.  I made a choice a few months ago to relocate back to my hometown of KC, Missouri from my coveted self made home of San Diego, California. Bitter sweet, I had to make the choice due to circumstances imposed by the global pandemic. 

The vision is both a melding of what I have spent my life's work on, and holding a space to bring in other masterful teachers, hold events, play and create... to unite in a complete space to dance, train, recover , express freely, celebrate movement in a safe space, with support of  health and personal practice.  Pole dance is an art that is certainly physically challenging, and also fun, graceful and beautiful! Encouraging personal power, while promoting wellness and self care practice is the ultimate mission of Alchemy Space!

All of these health aspects is what has given me the tools to thrive, and I hope to not only embody this, but create a safe place for others to thrive, too.

Focusing on the elements of safety, community, and wellness,  Alchemy’s vision is to create a place where the student has access to many tools to feeling good inside and out! From classes, workshops, wellness hacks and tools. 

Accessible to ALL levels, new and pro alike.  This vision is incorporating teachers and students as an integral part of the space. 

WHAT ARE THE FUNDS FOR? 

what? The short answer... start up costs.

when? I have until June 15th to have as many elements as possible in place. 

The detailed part... these are estimates based on my research 

I absolutely need the rent, back end software, insurance, some of the funds for instructors, some yoga mats and poles at the very least to open my doors. 

The rest is essential to run the space at full schedule, but I can trickle those in during my first days open.

Why I am asking for this?  TIMING.

I am seeking funds in the form of a loan. But I have not been able to yet secure that option. While I anticipate it working out eventually, the timing of finding the perfect space and that coming through did not line up. So, in trust of the universe I said yes.. as this space is exactly what I have been looking for and need to create the right environment! 

 WHAT THIS MEANS TO ME  ! PLEASE !  READ BELOW.

Real Talk... the pressure is on to create work for myself. So, I can take care of my son. 

I want to be able to live and do what I love while I share goodness with others, AND I also need  to be able to provide for my son, and give him a start of life he deserves. Without me starting a studio, quite frankly, I will have zero work here. I am currently living entirely off of pandemic unemployment, which is not going to last forever. I need to create work in order to start working. Otherwise, I will find myself having to do very remedial jobs in order to survive, and those jobs cannot pay for any type of child care, which I will also need in order to work. Its a situation that has put me in the hot seat, so to speak, to make something happen. With a child, I am very motivated to not only live as an example, but also to create a loving, sustainable and stable way of life. While, this is not an easy situation, I also see this as a chance to fully step forward, and show up in a way I never have. To be there for myself, my son, and to many others. 



Further, I have been in this industry a very long time, and I believe in it. I also hate to see it suffer as much as it has this last year, Ive chosen I want to be a part of rebuilding it. Im also very excited about the chance to create am amazing space right in my hometown of Kansas City, MO! 

Ive seen so many others fall in love with it just as I have. Me and pole dance are life partners. We have been through it all together, and since the beginning of it all. Through all the ups and downs, we are still here. 

Finally, as a marketable product... pole dance is physical. Physical fitness and health are our nature. People need it. It deserves to be in peoples lives. Pole dance also has the amazing ability to shine light on overcoming the stigmas around our bodies, and all the personal and social  issues that seem to come along with that. This in itself is a highly worthy purpose for many.
