Alco #5 Restoration
Donation protected
Alco #5 was built in 1947 by the American Locomotive Company in Schenectady NY. It is a rare running example of a type S-1 locomotive. This non turbo charged 660hp diesel was amongst the first locomotives to replace steam engines. As Alco 5 approaches 75 years old we are looking to preserve, protect and restore this American treasure that still resides a stone throw from its original build location. Through donations and funding we will be able to keep Alco #5 maintained for future generations to enjoy as a living history museum in the Town of Corinth NY.
Phase 1- Major projects that need immediate funding is cylinder head work on number 1 and 2 and injector pump work on cylinders 2 and 5.
Phase 2- Sanding and painting of entire locomotive
Phase 3-conversation to roller bearings so Alco 5 can travel and interchange with other railroads.
