Alec’s Eagle Project: Cello Racks for PVHS

What is it for?

My high school has a large Fine Arts Department that they invest thousands of dollars towards. It is terrible to see the lack of storage space to put these (hundreds of dollars worth) cellos which end up all over the floor. Upon meeting with the fine arts head instructor, he informed us how they are a safety hazard for the students to be unorganized all over the ground. "It is like a minefield during fire drills, and even day-to-day," he said. Additionally, the few units the school does have are outdated and falling apart. The school cannot afford to invest in modern storage equipment, which is currently marketed over $2000 dollars each.

However, as a Scout, I firmly believe this is where my knowledge of woodworking and problem solving can come to aid my school for a brighter future. With the project funded, we can work to help the instructor to create a safer and more constructive environment for the student's learning.

Our Goal:

What the project plans to accomplish is to create two cello racks for my High School's fine art department as well as have a separate team refurbish the department's storage cabinet system. These cello racks would be capable of holding up to four cellos each. Creating spaces for up to eight cellos in total.

The cello racks will also be transportable, attached with large sturdy wheel casters at each of the rack's edge corners. Providing the department and students options in relocating around the room, auditorium, travel, and the designated storing place.

Additional Mission:

There is a large cabinet system in the playing room that they use which is out of date and damaged. We would remove the old and worn-out doors, repaint them, and replace them with brand-new screwed handles. The remaining sides and corners will be remodeled and painted.

Our Next Step:

With the project funded and completed, there will be an almost brand new system of storing and filing equipment/instruments for the high school's fine arts department.
