Alec Weddell

Hi, my name is Lindsey Herron and I am a cousin to Alec. I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of the Weddell family as Alec begins his fight against cancer.
Alec was recently diagnosed with a rare form of oral cancer called Myofibroblastic Sarcoma. He will have surgery on November 7th, which happens to be the day before his 24th birthday. He is then scheduled to begin radiation 5 days a week for 7 weeks and then if needed, chemo will follow.
Alec has grown up in Tipton, his family has always been involved in the community, but most know them as the family that ran "The Cage", which was a youth basketball facility. If you know this family, you know that basketball has always played a huge role in their lives. All three Weddell boys played, Scott has had his hand in coaching both boys and girls basketball, and Jill was always an excellent team mom. Alec has now carried on the family's love of basketball, and helping the youth, by coaching a middle school team and assisting at the high school level. Two years ago, his 7th grade team went undefeated, and it was truly one of his proudest life moments to date. He is known to drop whatever he is doing, all hours of the day, just to go let a kid in the gym who wants to put in some extra work. He has shown up to watch the younger elementary kids play ball and cheer them on. He is more than a coach to these kids. He is a mentor, a teacher, a role model, and a friend and the kind of person that leaves an impact on your kids' life forever. He recently took the Athletic Director position at Tipton Middle School which has been a job he is truly enjoying! With all of that being said, Alec's biggest concern throughout the last few weeks has been the kids, his teams, and his job. He is heartbroken that his surgery date now falls on his team's first basketball game of the season. All of this shows his supportive nature and giving heart.
So now it's our turn. It is our turn to show him our support, kindness, generosity, compassion, and love. The stuff he pours into our little world daily. I am asking that first and foremost, you pray! Our God is the mighty healer! And second, if you have it in your heart to give, I ask that you consider helping Alec and his family in their time of need by donating. He has a long road ahead and any little bit will play a huge role in helping with his medical finances. And lastly, I ask that your share his story and share this page.
Thank you for the overwhelming show of support since this became public. We are forever grateful for each and every one of you and "thank you" will never be enough.
With love,
Lindsey
