On Tuesday evening, January 16, Aleesha was heading home after night skiing at Snoqualmie Pass. Adverse weather conditions, snow, and ice, contributed to an awful crash on I-90. A semi hit Aleesha from behind which left her unable to feel anything from the shoulders down for 5 minutes after being struck. She was taken by ambulance to Overlake Hospital where they discovered she had a C5 vertebral fracture. Surgery was done in the following days to remove the unstable vertebrae, replacing it with a cage. They then fused C4, C5, and C6 together for added stability. Over the last 4 days both sensation and mobility has been regained in legs. There is still weakness in the arms, the left side being more affected. PT and OT have already started in the hospital and will continue throughout the months to come. While the injuries sustained were severe, we feel very lucky that the spinal cord was left completely intact.

As with all spinal injuries, the road to recovery could be long and Aleesha's massage therapy practice is what provides income for her. She will be unable to perform the physical tasks at work and is therefore needing the help of her friends, family, colleagues and her mountain community so that she can focus on recovery.
