Rebuilding Our Lives: Seeking Support after Apartment Fire

Introduction:
Dear Friends, Family, Neighbors, and Community Members,
We hope this message finds you well. A few days ago our apartment building caught on fire, and the entire building is destroyed and unsafe to enter, including our unit. This has been an incredibly challenging situation and we would greatly appreciate any assistance you can offer as we work to regain safe housing and stability .

The Incident:
On 7/12, in the late afternoon Elizabeth returned home to find billowing smoke coming from the building’s carport. This then spread to two of the three apartment buildings in the complex. Our building took the worst of the damage, and while many items were spared from the fire, almost no items were spared from smoke and extensive water damage.
It has been a trying time for us physically and emotionally, and we are now rebuilding from scratch.

The Path to Recovery:
While building policy claims that rental insurance is included and managed by them, they have not yet responded, to anyone’s request for contact information regarding our policy. Due to this, and what seems like a real chance of not receiving anything from insurance we are reaching out to our community, friends, and family for your support to get us back on our feet.

How You Can Help:
Your contributions, no matter the size, will directly help us rebuild. Here are a few ways to help:

Financial Assistance: Your donation will go towards covering the costs of securing necessities, like clothing, as well as replacing lost items, and hopefully soon, a new apartment.

Basic Necessities: In addition to clothing our immediate needs are toiletries, food, and storage space for items we have and are hoping to save. Any assistance in acquiring these necessities, financial or otherwise, will be greatly appreciated.

Emotional Support: We’ve already started receiving so many kind texts and calls from our family and friends. Please know, that while we may not be able to respond and keep up with everything right now, we appreciate your kind thoughts, words, and encouragement ✨

Sharing Our Story: Please feel free to share this and spread the word to your social circle. And if anyone in your network is a lawyer or connected with relevant social services, and you feel comfortable making the connection, please connect us with them. We are also looking for resources for our neighbors, and if you have additional connections with services for the elderly and disabled, please let us know. We are calling people and services nonstop, but Los Angeles is a big city and getting hold of the right resources is very challenging. More people knowing can only help.

Closing Words:
We are endlessly appreciative of the kindness we have been shown by family, friends and volunteers. Any contribution you can make, whether it’s money, time, or energy, will make a so much of a difference in rebuilding our lives. We are so grateful for your time and consideration.
Thank you for your support and for helping us find hope amidst this challenging situation.

With love and gratitude,
Elizabeth and Alejandro
