Alejandro Needs Top Surgery

Hi! I'm Alejandro, a 27 year old afro-latine trans man. I've known I was trans since I was about 15 years old, it's something I've had to hide for most of my life, from friends, family, and society in general. While I’ve been able to start HRT, I’m unfortunately not in a place where I can be safely out as trans. This puts me in a difficult situation, as I often must choose between either painfully binding for extended periods to pass as male without harassment, or I must put forth considerable effort to make myself pass as a woman. This constant back and forth to ensure my safety is exhausting, and top surgery would be the next step to drastically improve my living conditions. While I am still not able to change my name, or my gender marker, top surgery is the one thing I can do to affirm my gender. While at the beginning of this campaign (over a year ago, if you can believe it!), I had not yet started HRT and felt unable to come out at my place of work, I believe with top surgery I would be able to not only come out as my proper gender and be taken seriously, but that due to changing work circumstances, my chances of being accepted would be significantly higher. I'm currently only able to work part time as I'm both disabled (chronic pain) and a student full time, so I find myself in a place where I am unable to save the substantial amount of money needed for this surgery. Without your help, I cannot make this a reality.

After years of not knowing whether I should make this gofundme or not, I've gotten to the point where my gender dysphoria is so severe, I believe it would be a detriment to my mental and emotional health to put this off any longer, so I am turning to anyone generous enough to lend me some help! I'm truly grateful to all the people in my life who have stuck beside me as I've navigated the difficulties I've had to face so far, and I'm so grateful to you, who took time to read this, share, or even donate to my campaign ️‍⚧️⚧

Where the funds are going:

The current goal I have is a estimate of what I believe the cost for my top surgery and recovery will be based on research I've done on the experiences of other trans men. The end goal is certainly subject to being changed in the future, especially as I haven't had a consultation yet.

I plan on going to Dr. Hope Sherie in Charlotte, NC for my surgery. She specializes in several different kinds of top surgery, and operates around insurance. This is especially important to me, as the requirements for getting top surgery covered by my insurance include outing myself as transgender and possibly starting HRT. As I said earlier, I'm not in a place where I am safe to do either of those things, so unfortunately I cannot have any of my surgery covered. Once I have received a consultation from her, I will update this gofundme!
