Alesia Bernasconi-Bell Beating Cancer Fund

It’s been said that helping one person won’t change the world, but it could change the world for that one person.

Alesia has been bravely fighting cancer for several years.   It has come back in different places seven times and each time; she fights… refusing to let it win.

This last time her local doctors said there was nothing more they could do, so she went to the MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.   Doctors there felt that two surgeries would give her a chance to beat it.

The first surgery would remove a lesion from her liver and the second would remove lesions from her lungs.

The first surgery took place in September in Texas.  It was successful, and Alesia was out of the hospital sooner than expected.  She was sent home to heal for the next surgery.

That's when things hit a bump.  The surgical incision from the first surgery had been slow to heal, was becoming infected, stitches not dissolving, etc.  She found herself back in the hospital in Albuquerque to have the stitched area opened, cleaned out and reclosed.  Unfortunately, the area is not healing, and the doctors are recommending a pump to help the healing process.    The second surgery has now been postponed again.

The medical equipment she needs to help her incision heal will cost $70 a day or over $2000 per month.
Right now Alesia has insurance through APS, but it won’t cover the cost of the vacuum pump.  Her insurance ends in December because her leave will be up, and she cannot go back to work.  She had planned to go back to her classroom after winter break and began the school year with that hope in mind.

She has applied for disability but has not been approved at this time.  This process can take up to 12 weeks.

This GoFundMe is to help Alesia pay for the medical device she needs so that she can heal and have the second surgery on her lungs.  The funds will also help her and Roger travel to and from Texas for her doctor appointments at the MD Anderson.

For those of us who have watched Alesia battle this disease, she has done so with grace, determination and her special contagious laughter.  Her positive attitude has surely made a difference, but now she needs some cheerleaders.  She needs our help.   Please consider donating to help this amazing human being keep fighting this horrible disease.   Knowing that she has the funds to move forward will keep her stress levels down, which will surely help her have better energy to fight.

Your help is greatly appreciated.   Your generosity and support will help Alesia and Roger move forward with a little less anxiety and stress.

It is by working together that we change the world.  Let’s change Alesia’s world together.   Thank you so much.
