Alex Beamon was a beloved figure who was extremely active in numerous community organizations and the lives of those close to him. In December, 2018 he was diagnosed with first stage throat cancer and underwent weeks of targeted therapy. In May of 2019, he was expecting to receive a diagnosis of all clear, but instead he was told that his cancer had spread to his lungs and was now fourth stage. On May 15th, he was given 6 months to live. Unfortunately that 6 months turned out to be only 6 weeks.
On May 31st, Alex joined with nearly all of his family and many of his friends in Houston to celebrate the graduation of his niece. Everyone was thrilled to see him. He returned to Milwaukee on June 2nd along with his twin sons and two other family friends, ready to continue with his fight for life. June 13th was his 58th birthday and he complained of severe pain in his right leg. By the next week, he was barely walking with the help of a cane. Over the next 2 or 3 days, his pain became unbearable. On June 24th, after much encouragement, he went to the emergency room and was admitted.
The next morning, his doctors informed him that his cancer had spread quickly and considerably and he needed to think about going into a hospice facility. Alex's health had declined so fast that he could barely speak and could no longer walk after being in the hospital for two days. The doctors repeated spoke to him about hospice care but the only facility they had for him was 45 plus minutes away by car; meaning that he would be isolated from all of his family and friends. He did not want to be away from everyone that he loved, especially his sons. After careful consideration and with his consent, we decided on Home Hospice Care and on June 30th, we brought him home to his apartment.
Alex passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, July 5th with loved ones near him. Since his health declined so swiftly and suddenly, his family did not have the time to prepare for his home hospice care or his daily expenses, which were paid for out of pocket. The main issue now is his funeral. We are asking for your help in giving Alex a homegoing that is deserving of the him. Any contribution in any amount will be greatly appreciated.
His services have been entrusted to Northwest Funeral Home, 6630 West Hampton Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53218 - [phone redacted]. The viewing and funeral with happen there.
