Alex Casnoff's First Solo Album

hi! my name is Alex Casnoff. i’m making my first “solo” record. I love these songs with my whole heart and I can't afford to bring them to life without your help. ♥

The reason i need funding is the same reason solo is in quotes, because there’s no such thing as doing this alone with the kind of music i make. It requires musicians to play the songs, a space big enough to record us playing in, someone to engineer the recordings, someone to mix them and someone to master them.

a little transparency:

- I found an incredible studio at a very good price. Altamira Sound in Alhambra which is $850 a day including an engineer. (most of the overdubs and experimentation will be done at my home studio)

- I have a lot of talented musician friends who i would love to pay a decent day rate and remove myself from the do-me-a-favor economy.

- a good mixing engineer's indie rate is usually between $500-1000 per song.

- mastering will cost between $100-250 per song

So at the very low end of things with just 6 days in a larger studio, paying musicians and coming out with 9-12 songs to be mixed and mastered we’re talking about $13-15,000. I think realistically it will probably end up being closer to 20 or 25k to complete the full record as the project may need additional studio days, additional musicians, songs may be reshaped, rethought etc.

Making music is expensive, but only because the people making it deserve to be paid.

ALSO i assume this is mostly going to be seen and shared by my friends and family, but if you don’t know me…

I had a band called Harriet that released a couple ep’s and a full length album on Harvest records which is a subsidiary of Capitol records. I’ve produced and written songs with and for many artists including Zella Day, and 2 full length albums for Sorcha Richardson including her most recent record “smiling like an idiot” which was nominated for Irish album of the year by the RTE choice music prize.
