Hi All!

My name is Alex Fu and I am a 16-year-old Boy Scout from Troop 50 in Los Angeles. I am currently working on my Eagle Rank, the highest rank in scouting. In order to earn the rank, I must complete a service project that will benefit the community.

My Project!

For my project, I will be building two yellow planters for my school, the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (LACES). LACES is a Magnet School in the LA Unified School District (LAUSD) with over 1600 students in classes ranging from 6th Grade through High School. I came up with this project after working with the school administration because recently, all the school buildings were repainted to white and blue. While the new paint job makes the school look clean, it also took away a bit of the color that the school had before. By adding these planters, I hope it will bring some vibrant colors back to the school and provide the students a nice area to rest and study. To make these planters unique, I will be adding a stencil of the school mascot, Randy the Unicorn, to the side.

As a Boy Scout, I have learned to appreciate nature and plants through our hikes and campouts. On top of wanting to add some color to the school, I wanted to bring a bit more nature to LACES by including a variety of different lively plants. I will be working with the LACES administration to ensure that the plants are approved by LAUSD and are appropriate for the environment.

I wanted to do my project at my school because it has played a huge part in my life and I wanted to give back to it in a meaningful way.

I am asking for your donations in order to make this project possible. All donations will be used to buy materials and supplies for my project and any extra funds will be donated to the school. These planters will be here for years to come and make the campus more appealing for the students and staff that are already here, and for those in the far future.
